Which sports does the PIL Athletics offer?

OSAA Sanctioned sports

High School:

Fall: Football, Cross Country, Cheer/Dance, Volleyball, Soccer

Winter: Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Swim

Spring: Track and Field, Tennis, Golf, Softball, Baseball

  Youth Sports:

Fall: Football, Cross Country, Volleyball

Winter: Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Dance

Spring: Track and Field

Participation: Clearance and Eligibility

What is needed to be cleared for athletic participation?

  • Current physical
  • Blue card
  • Student Participation Form
  • Paid participation fee

Physicals: 

  • Where do you get physical forms? 

Download from website, coordinator, athletic office, high school athletic director.

  • How often do I need to have a physical? 

Every two years to the current date.  Youth physicals carry over to high school.  Ex: if your child got a physical in 8th grade, they do not need one until 10th grade.

  • Where can I get a physical? 

Your own doctor or physician or at any of the school based health. Look for information for opportunities throughout the year for additional clinics.  Take the district physical form to the appointment so it can be filled out.  

  • To whom do I turn in my physical form? 

Your coach or coordinator.  Make copies of your child’s physical.  Do not turn in your only copy.

  • If I’m enrolled in a private high school or alternative high school, and my school doesn’t offer a particular sport, where can I participate?

Students enrolled at a private or alternative school that does not offer full athletic programming, may participate at their neighborhood school. Neighborhood schools are: Cleveland, Franklin, Grant, Lincoln, McDaniel, Roosevelt, and Ida B Wells.

If I have a question about eligibility and academics what should I do?

High School: Contact the Athletic Director at your school

  • How do I apply for a hardship?

Contact your Athletic Director

  • If I don’t have medical insurance can my child still participate?

Yes, but you will need to contact the School Based Health Clinic for assistance.

  • Is there a policy for “transgender” student participation 

       The PIL follows the OSAA policy, please click on link and go to page 70 –     http://www.osaa.org/docs/handbooks/osaahandbook.pdf

  • What do I do if I have any barrier to my student participating?  (Equipment, fees,)

  Contact the District Athletic Office

Transportation:

  • Team transportation is available to all games/meets for High Schools sports.
  •  
  • Does the PIL provide transportation to games/meets for Youth Sports? 

On a case by case basis, contact your youth coordinator to ask about transportation for games/meets. 

  • If there is district provided transportation to and from games/meets does my child have to use it?

 The parent or guardian listed on the emergency contact or blue card needs to communicate with the coach.

  • Schedules:

District games and meets are posted and updated daily on the PIL website.  Practices and other additional games/meets will not be on the District website, those are communicated through the athletic director, cluster coordinator or coach.

  • How do I communicate with the coach of my child’s team?

Each program has an established form of communication, please contact your child’s coach or the school Athletic Director for information. See the youth tab for youth sport coordinator contact info.

  • What do I do if I have concerns or complaints with a coach, coordinator or other athletic personnel?

Communicate with the school Athletic Director or Cluster Coordinator (youth). If these steps have already been taken and your concerns have not yet been resolved, please complete the survey – https://www.pps.net/contact

What youth program can my student play for? (Boundary questions)

  •  What Cluster Do I play for?

Whatever neighborhood high school boundary you live in. For PPS boundary map click here – https://www.pps.net/Page/2379

  •  What if I attend a private or alternative school?  

You can still participate in the PIL youth program, but you must participate within the neighborhood cluster you reside in. 

  • Students in “Dual Boundary” – Students who live in the dual boundary, all play youth sports for Jefferson.
  • All students must participate in the High School Cluster where they reside. If you are a Dual Boundary student (Grant/Jefferson, Madison/Jefferson, or Roosevelt/Jefferson) you must participate within the Jefferson Cluster. If you are unsure of which Cluster you reside in, please click here and type in your address

  • How do I know when AND where youth games are?

PIL website lists all contests with times and locations. Look under the youth tab for contest information for Youth programs. 

  • Cost to participate?

High School: Full- $200 or reduced rate- $35

Youth: Full- $200 or reduced rate- $60
Youth Football: Full – $200 or reduced rate- $90

  • How do I find out the status of games or practices if school is closed or there is inclement weather?

Information will be posted on PPS and PIL Websites.  In addition, each coach and cluster coordinator/athletic director will communicate with you through their normal communication procedures

  • Is there a PIL policy regarding playing time for participants playing time?

The PIL does not have a policy with regards to playing time. The PIL does believe however that youth teams as well as sub-varsity teams (JV, JV2, Freshmen) at the high school level are not only competitive, but developmental as well. Playing time will reflect that.
